Cokel’s Muffler Shop, a Galva business for over 18 years, is under new ownership. Leo Sarver has purchased it from Tammy Cokel.

Sarver, a former Galva resident now residing in Kewanee, assumed ownership of the 800 SE 2nd St. shop on Jan. 1. He’d been working there for the previous six months or so.

Cokel and her husband Steve opened the shop in April 1992. Steve died two years ago, but not before he and his wife established a business well known regionally.

Sarver hopes to continue that.

“We’re going to continue on Steve’s service to Henry County,” said Sarver, 35.

A journeyman pipe fitter and holder of certificates in welding, Sarver said his entrance into muffler work is natural.

To that end, he plans to expand the business so that it also includes working on stainless steel, welding, and metal fabrication.

“I want to add that for the down times,” said, noting that he will “pretty much take on any kind of fabricating job when it comes to steel.”
