Denzil “Denny” C. Thuline, 81, of Altona, passed away Wednesday March 5, 2014 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Denzil “Denny” C. Thuline, 81, of Altona, passed away Wednesday March 5, 2014 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Denzil was born June 28, 1932 in rural Altona, the son of Vina (Ritthaler) and Walter Thuline.

He was raised and educated in Altona and ROVA schools.

On April 17, 1954 he married the love of his life, Barbara Cannon of Maquon.

He worked as an electrician for over 35 years, starting with Bud Swanson and including Haskin Electric, Maxwell Electric and ADM.

Denzil loved playing music with his friends and tinkering with any and everything mechanical. He was the “go-to guy” when you needed something fixed.

Denzil will be remembered for his smile, corny jokes and plaid shirts.

Denzil is survived by his wife, Barbara of Altona; children, Dixie (Bill) Burress of LeClaire, Iowa and Jack Thuline of New River, Ariz.; two grandsons, Nathan (Ashley) of Eldridge, Iowa and Lee of Iowa City, Iowa; sisters, Rosalie Rittenhouse of Galva and Danita (Bud) Benson of Oregon; brothers-in-law, Clint (Marilyn) Cannon and Jim (Sherry) Cannon, as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Memorial donations may be made to Altona Ambulance or Altona Fire Department.

Visitation will be at Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home in Oneida on Saturday, March 8, 2014 from 10 to 11 a.m., followed by the memorial service at 11 a.m. Rev. David Pyell will be officiating.
