All youth are invited to participate in a 6-week series of fun, hands-on classes in 4-H YOUniversity. Using innovative curriculum and the 4-H “learn by doing” philosophy, engaging instructors take students on a journey of discovery!

At the end of each session, students will have the chance to make a project for an exhibit showcase where they will receive ribbons. 4-H YOUniversity classes help youth build skills and enhance their knowledge.

The 2012 Winter Session of 4-H YOUniversity classes are being offered at the Rock Island County Extension Office, in Milan, IL. Each class is $10 for 4-H members.  There is a yearly $20 state 4-H Enrollment fee to join   4-H.

To register, visit web.extesnion.illinois.edu/hmrs.  Half-fee tuition waivers are available for youth who qualify for free or reduced lunch. Support for this program is provided, in part, by a grant from the Amy Helpenstell Foundation.  All programs require advanced registration.  Register online at web.extension.illinois.edu/hmrs or call (309) 756-9978.

Mondays, January 30 - March 5, 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. youth ages 9 and up can choose from these two classes:

Duct Tape Creations II:  "Roll" out the duct tape as you create exciting works of art and fashion! In this day and age, duct tape is more than the roll hanging in the garage. You’ll use it to create items like bags, flip-flops, and a hat. You will also learn how to refurbish an old item and make it new again! Previous experience working with duct tape is beneficial. Show your results at the March 4-H family fun night!

The Next 4-H Chef: Do you love to cook? Are you creative in the kitchen and love to mix and bake? Then this Monday night class is for you! Junior Chefs will learn basic culinary skills while creating some delicious dishes. Each week students will make two dishes using a key ingredient. The class culminates with a project where they make their own recipe for judging. Prizes will be awarded to the winner.

Wednesdays, February 1 – March 7, 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. students ages 9 and up can choose from these two classes:

Science Fair- Experiments, challenges, projects and more. In this class, students will explore the world of science through different types of science experiments and projects that can be found at a science fair. They will showcase a project at the March 4-H Family Fun Night event.

Eye on Fashion – Students in this class will learn tips and trends in the fashion world. They will learn how to shop on a budget, make their own fashion accessories and discover their unique style. Students will also learn how to rework items in their closet to become a style "fashionista." The final project will be for participants to put together an outfit for a fashion show at the 4-H Family Fun night in March.
