The Galva Junior High School dance team won second place in the Pom category at the Illinois Drill Team Association Junior High/Junior Varsity State Competition held March 6 in Bloomington.

 

The Awesome Aces organization is sponsoring a variety show on Friday, March 12 at 7 p.m. in the AlWood Middle School gym. AlWood Middle School students will entertain attendees with music, comedy, tumbling and dancing, to raise money for Haitians in need.
 

The Galva Foundation for Educational Enrichment (GalFEE) is hosting a “March of the Penguins” fund-raiser this month.
 

The Galva Freedom Fest committee is holding a prom dress sale for their next fundraiser. The group is seeking donations of new or slightly used prom dresses, formals or bridesmaid dresses, with accessories if possible. The dresses will be sold at a reduced cost for the upcoming prom season.

The Ridgewood girls basketball team wanted to beat the best.

They nearly did.

The third-ranked Spartans hardly looked the part of newcomers at Redbird Arena in Normal in the Class 1A state tournament semifinals on Friday, Feb. 26, taking defending state champion Hinckley-Big Rock down to the wire in a 49-46 overtime heartbreaker.

“You just saw the state championship game, in my opinion,” Ridgewood coach Bryan Brooks said.
