The Awesome Aces organization is sponsoring a variety show on Friday, March 12 at 7 p.m. in the AlWood Middle School gym. AlWood Middle School students will entertain attendees with music, comedy, tumbling and dancing, to raise money for Haitians in need.
The Galva Freedom Fest committee is holding a prom dress sale for their next fundraiser. The group is seeking donations of new or slightly used prom dresses, formals or bridesmaid dresses, with accessories if possible. The dresses will be sold at a reduced cost for the upcoming prom season.
Two upcoming art shows will display the talents of area students. The Henry-Stark Art Show will be held at Wehersfield High School on Thursday, March 11. The public is welcome at 6 p.m. for the judge’s critique. The Lincoln Trail Art Festival will be held at Monmouth College on Tuesday, March 23.

ROWVA High School junior Ashley LaGrow’s “Teens for Jeans” clothing drive for Haitian earthquake victims is complete. The Rio teen collected 318 pairs of “gently worn” jeans at ROWVA. She recently took them to a Peoria Aeropostale store. Because the store had already met its quota of jeans to be sent to Haiti, all of ROWVA’s donated items were given to a homeless shelter in Peoria.
United Church of Altona, Immanuel Lutheran Church in Altona and United Church of Oneida are hosting joint worship services for the upcoming Lenten season.
The Galva Ministerial Association is hosting its annual Lenten Study and Soup Supper series, beginning Feb. 25. The series is held on Thursday evenings, beginning at 6 p.m. with the worship service, followed by soup and fellowship.
The Galva Arts Council will feature the Galesburg group No Reason at its Saturday, Feb. 13 coffeehouse at the GAC building downtown. No Reason plays atmospheric, folk-pop music from a diverse range of artists, including Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, David Bowie and Crosby Stills Nash and Young. The band also performs original compositions.

Local rock band Motorbiscuit has reached the final six and is advancing to the second round in the Third Annual Battle of the Bands contest at Crusens, a popular Peoria nightspot. The band earned the right to advance by winning its opening round Friday night.
