Bishop Hill -

“Sweet Annie’s,” a new antiques shop, opened in Bishop Hill on May 13.

The shop is located on West Main Street, across the street south of the park, on the first floor of an 1855 colony building which had 15 sleeping rooms. Jim and Cheri Campbell own the building and occupy the top floor.

The shop will have primitives, handmade items and dried flower wreaths.

Two area women, Sue Anderson of Bishop Hill and Eileen Verbeck of Kewanee, join the Campbells in having antiques in the shop and will work there. Hours are Wednesday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Cheri Campbell said people are glad to get to see the old building  with three rooms and hallways decorated with the antiques. She said the shop’s name comes from a dried flower shop she formerly owned and operated in Port Byron called “Sweet Annie’s Flowers.”

Campbell said her favorite flower is sweet annie and she loves to make dried arrangements from them.

In the future, the shop will also have some garden items outside for sale.

In the shop’s entry way is a wall painted by Cheri depicting the different homes she and her husband have lived in during their lives.

The Campbells also operate the Colony Bakery with their son, Tom.
