Michael Doran and Mark Pedzimaz completed their 6-month probationary period and passed all requirements to become an Explorer. The two were recognized with the presentation of their Class B uniform shirts by Explorer Captain Mueller.
Michael Doran and Bryce Haddix were promoted to the rank of Explorer Corporal. Selection for this rank is very competitive and testing includes an assessment of their knowledge and skills in various competencies. Both Doran and Haddix had their corporal rank pinned on by their first line leaders, Explorer Sergeant Clouston and Explorer Lieutenant Huffman.
Dominic DeAngelis was promoted to the rank of Explorer First Class and Erbin Zejnuloski and Mark Pedzimaz were promoted to Explorer Second Class. This outstanding achievement is a testament to their hard work, commitment, and teamwork.

Explorer Awards
Explorer of the Year is the highest award the post bestows. Each year post leadership evaluates the performance of all members throughout the academic year and submits names to the Post Advisors for consideration. This year, Dominic DeAngelis was selected as the recipient. DeAngelis’ work ethic, attitude, character, and his willingness to help others embodies the values of the post.
The physical fitness award is presented to Explorers who achieve a passing score on the Peace Officer Wellness Evaluation Report (POWER) Test. The POWER test consists of a sit and reach, bench press, sit-ups and a mile and a half run. This test is required for applicants to pass prior to being hired as a police officer in the State of Illinois. McKenna Carbon, Kevin Clouston, Dominic DeAngelis, Michael Doran, Bryce Haddix, Matthew Kielbasa, and Kyle Sandhaas were all presented with the award. Michael Mueller earned his second award.
Each year the post holds an intramural competition between the two explorer squads. This year the competition included domestic response scenarios, building searches, traffic stops, a shooting competition, and a Peace Officer Wellness Evaluation Report (POWER) Test. Squad members Kevin Clouston, Erbin Zejnuloski, Michael Doran, Bryce Haddix, Mark Pedzimaz, Kyle Sandhaas, and Courtney Neavear were all awarded the Explorer Competition Star for achieving the highest score during the intramural competition held last month.
The Tenure Award was presented to Hunter Briggs, Kevin Clouston, Dominic DeAngelis, Bryce Haddix, Samuel Newill, and Erbin Zejnuloski for completing one year of satisfactory service to the explorer post. Renata Sturlic, Steven Huffman, Michael Mueller, and Courtney Neavear were all awarded their second award.
The perfect attendance award is bestowed on Explorers who attend all scheduled post functions during the academic year. Dominic DeAngelis, Renata Sturlic, and Michael Mueller were presented with the award.
Michael Mueller was presented with the Community Service Award. This award is presented to Explorers who complete a cumulative total of 100 hours of community service. Explorers have performed over 300 hours of community service since August 2016.
Please join us in congratulating all Explorers for their outstanding achievements. We look forward to seeing everyone back in the Fall.
