Galva High School senior Megan Nordstrom has been selected to participate in the 2017 Macy's Great American Marching Band, which will march in the 91st annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

"It is my honor and privilege to recognize and commend Megan Nordstrom on her selection to march in the 2017 Macy's Great American Marching Band,” Galva Junior-Senior High School principal Jerry Becker said at Monday night’s board of education meeting.

Honoring America's finest high school musicians, this band will be comprised of select students from across the United States. The band is under the direction of Auburn University's Dr. Richard Good and assisted by many talented music educators from across the country. The 185 musicians will be complemented by approximately 40 flags and dancers.

Megan is in her second year as Galva Junior-Senior High's drum major and she has participated in the Smith Walbridge world class drum major clinic at Eastern Illinois University over the past two summers.

“I am very proud of our Galva Junior-Senior High band and the leadership of drum major Megan Nordstrom and she is well-deserving of this prestigious honor,” Becker said. “We look forward to joining more than 50 million TV viewers watching live on NBC this Thanksgiving.”
