Two juveniles were charged Monday (Oct. 23) afternoon in connection with the gazebo vandalism last Thursday night in Wiley Park, according to Police Chief Kraig Townsend.

The names of the 14- year-old female and 15- year-old male are being withheld due to their ages.

The spindles were knocked out of the gazebo Thursday evening and discovered Friday morning.

Chief Townsend said the pair were referred to juvenile court and charged with criminal damage to government-supported property and released to their parents Monday afternoon.

The park has been a target for vandalism lately, as a few spindles have been broken before, swings broken and thrown on the shelter roof, obscene language written on the playground equipment, broken branches of trees and littering.

The gazebo was Zach Rux’s Eagle Scout project and was a nice addition to the park with the bench inside and plantings around the outside.
