The Mid-County boys, Ridgewood girls and Spartan Jordan Francis advanced to sectional competition at Saturday’s Class 1A Rock Falls Regional cross country meet.

The Mid-County boys, Ridgewood girls and Spartan Jordan Francis advanced to sectional competition at Saturday’s (Oct. 21) Class 1A Rock Falls Regional cross country meet.

The Cougars finished fifth in the boys team chase, led by Lorin Peterson in seventh overall with a time of 16:42.

Also counting for M-C were Caelin Foley 15th at 17:20, Nate Peters 39th at 18:19, Nathan Cutts 44th at 18:31 and Cal Larson 46th at 18:42.

Sterling Newman won the regional team title with 54 points. Teams joining Newman as sectional qualifiers were Rock Falls second at 54, Erie-Prophetstown third at 108, Bureau Valley fourth at 116, Mid-County fifth at 132, Rockridge sixth at 169 and Sherrard seventh at 186.

Dawson Smith of Rock Falls was the individual champion in a time of 15:43.

Ridgewood junior Francis earned the fourth of five sectional individual qualifying berths Saturday at Rock Falls. Francis finished 12th in a time of 17:04.

The Ridgewood girls tied for seventh place at Rock Falls to earn one of the final two team sectional berths.

The Spartans and Princeton tied for seventh place with 214 team points. Ridgewood’s counters were Carlie Barman 31st at 22:13, Lauren Curry 40th at 22:36, Makenna Medley 50th at 23:54, Anna Paul 51st at 24:03 and Tobi Matter 57th at 24:34.

Rock Falls won the team title with 32 points and Bailee Fortney of Rock Falls was the individual champ in a time of 18.16.

The M-C boys, Ridgewood girls and Francis will be in action Saturday, Oct. 28, at the Oregon Sectional. The girls get the running started at 10 a.m. at Oregon Park West, followed by the boys at 11 a.m.

The top five teams and top seven individuals not on qualifying teams advance to the Class 1A state meet Nov. 4 at Detweiller Park in Peora.
