LaVerne John Charlet
LaVerne John Charlet of Paducah, Ky., formerly of Kewanee and Galva, died Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2017 at Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Calvert City, Ky. He was 83.
Cremation rites were accorded.
LaVerne was born in Burns Township on Aug. 23, 1934 to Walter R. Charlet and Isabel H. Lindbeck Charlet. He graduated from Kewanee High School in 1952. He kept in contact with many of his classmates over the years and always looked forward to attending KHS reunions.
LaVerne enjoyed a long and successful career in the liquid waste industry. For nearly 45 years his travels took him across the United States and to many foreign countries. He formed lifelong friendships with many of his co-workers, colleagues and customers and enjoyed reminiscing with them even after his retirement. He will be missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.
One of his early employers was Art Apfel at S & S Motors in Galva. In 1967, LaVerne started working for Leland Pearson at Pearson Bros. Co. and in 1973 helped form their new company known as I.M.E.
In 1989 he moved to Paducah, Ky. and continued his career with IBEX Industries. Starting in 2002 he owned and operated LC Tanks. Inc. until his retirement in 2012.
He loved golf and was always a fan of Chicago sports teams, especially the Bears!
He is survived by his wife Sandra Jane McFadon Charlet; two daughters, Cindy Carroll of LaFayette and Lynette (Kevin) Yepsen of Galva; granddaughter, Markie VanDeVelde of Galva; stepson, Michael Maher of Tampa, Fla.; two sisters, Marcy Inness of Galesburg and Eileen Kenney of California; and five step-grandchildren, Kristen Maher-James and Mikey, Max, Zach and Jackson Maher all of Florida.
Preceding him in death were his parents and a sister, Marvis Terry of Alamo, Calif.
His dogs were always a special part of his life. Memorials may be directed to the Henry County Humane Society of Kewanee, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
A private memorial will be held at a later date. Interment of ashes will be in Cambridge Cemetery.
