“Your future is bright — like this sticky note.”

“I believe in you.”

“Your future is bright — like this sticky note.”

“Have a good day.”

“Seeing you happy makes me HAPPY.”

“You bring out the best in people!”

Colorful sticky notes with the messages above and many more positive words hang on the Student Council bulletin board at Galva Junior-Senior High School. Just outside the library, the bulletin board is being utilized by the Student Council as a way for students and staff to share kind words with each other.

The message in the middle of the board is simple — “Throw Kindness Around Like Confetti.”

Students can take the pre-written sticky notes on the board and affix them to a classmate’s locker, or use the multi-colored sticky notes and pen attached to a clipboard next the bulletin board and write and share their own personal message with a classmate.

“It’s kind of like a more positive spin,” said GHS senior Josie Berry. “Instead of saying, ‘Don’t bully,’ it’s telling you more positive ways to interact with each other.”

“It’s a fun way of doing it, too,” added GHS senior Lauren Landis. “I’ve seen a lot of sticky notes all over peoples’ lockers.”

“We’ve gone through quite a few of the sticky note pads,” said GHS Student Council advisor Trisha Main.

The Student Council used its bulletin board at the start of the school year to introduce its members, and then shifted to a holiday theme as Christmas approached.

Now it’s the Kindness Board and the messages are catching on around the school.

“I even think some staff members are writing notes, too,” Main said. “I think it’s getting the message out about being positive.”
