Dr. Harley Schnowske

Dr. Harley D. Schnowske, 82, of Cambridge, died Sunday, July 1, 2018, at Good Samaritan Village in Geneseo. 

A memorial service was held Friday, July 6 at Cambridge United Methodist Church. The Rev. Jim Aniol and the Rev. David Joyce officiated. A private family interment will be in Rosedale Cemetery in Cambridge. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cambridge United Methodist Church, University of Illinois Veterinary Scholarship Fund or Cambridge Ambulance Service. 

Per his request, cremation has been accorded. Stackhouse-Moore Funeral & Cremation Services in Cambridge is assisting the family with arrangements.

Harley Dean Schnowske was born Aug. 12, 1935, in Cambridge, the son of Raymond and Mabel (Eaton) Schnowske. He graduated from Cambridge High School in 1953 where he was an outstanding basketball player and was inducted into the Cambridge High School Sports Hall of Fame. He married Joyce Anderson on Aug. 31, 1957, in Andover. She survives. Harley attended the University of Illinois graduating in 1958 with a bachelor of science degree. His name was inscribed on the Bronze Tablet for being in the top one percent at the university.  In 1960, he graduated from the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine and was valedictorian of his class. He joined the Geneseo Veterinary Practice of Dr. Roy Reppert and Dr. William Munson in 1960.  He retired from practice in February of 2002 after 43 years.

He was a charter member of Valley View Club and served on the first Valley View Board. He was a member of the Cambridge School Board. Harley served on the Cambridge zoning committee for 30 years. He also served on the Edwards River Valley Drainage District Committee, was a lifetime member of American Veterinary Medical Association and the Illinois Veterinary Medical Association, and was a member of the Cambridge United Methodist Church.

Harley is survived by his wife, Joyce; daughters, Joy (Dave) Dornfeld and Joline (Duane) Olson, both of Geneseo; a son, Tod Schnowske of Plainfield; grandchildren, Dr. Jarrod Dornfeld of St. Louis, Mo., Erik Dornfeld of Glendale, Calif., Janelle Olson of Geneseo, Kelsey Olson of Solon, Iowa, and Gavin Schnowske and Hope Schnowske, both of Plainfield; brothers, Everett (Janice) Schnowske of Altona and Larry (Norine) Schnowske,of Cambridge; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
