Ridgewood boys advance to sectional play
Led by a 1-under par 71 from individual runner-up Thomas Bumann, the Ridgewood boys golf team advanced to sectional competition at the Class 1A Orion Regional Tuesday at Valley View Club in Cambridge.
Rockridge, paced by matching rounds of 76 from Drew Hall and Grant Otting, won the regional title with a 321 total. Ridgewood was second at 327 and Sherrard grabbed the final team qualifying slot with 333.
Jeremy Ott of Brimfield won medalist honors with a 1-under 71. He defeated Bumann on the first playoff hole with a birdie.
Williamsfield finished fourth and seven shots out of a team berth at 340.
Mid-County placed eighth in the 13-team field with a 402 total. Three Mid-County players posted rounds of 93 — Tristan Rogers, Trey Rogers and Rian Mott — and missed a playoff for the final individual qualifying spot by one shot.
Joining Bumann as counters for Ridgewood were Bill Bumann with 81, Ganon Greenman 84 and Wiley Hart 91.
The Ridgewood boys will tee it up Monday, Oct. 8, in the Class 1A Mercer County Sectional at Hawthorn Ridge Golf Course in Aledo.
The top three teams and low 10 individuals not on qualifying teams advance to the state tourney Oct. 12 and 13 at Prairie Vista Golf Course in Bloomington.
Thomas Bumann of Ridgewood and Elizabeth Whitford of Mid-County successfully defended their titles at the Lincoln Trail Conference Tournament Wednesday, Sept. 26, at Arrowhead Country Club near Chillicothe.
Bumann fired 79 and earned a comfortable eight-shot win over Lorin Peterson of Williamsfield in the boys individual competition. Bumann’s round also led Ridgewood to a repeat team title with a 351 total.
Joining Bumann as counters for the Spartans were Bill Bumann with 88 for third place, Ganon Greenman 89 for fourth place and Wiley Hart 95 for eighth place.
Williamsfield was second in the team hunt with 371 and Mid-County was third at 401.
Mid-County’s counters were Tristan Rogers with 95, Rian Mott 96, Trey Rogers 102 and Kaden Willer 108. Tristan Rogers and Mott earned top-10 medals — Rogers seventh and Mott 10th.
In the girls tourney, Whitford cruised to her LTC title by 12 shots with a 91.
Mercer County won the team title with 421, followed by United 453, Mid-County 478 and Ridgewood 519.
Joining Whitford as counters for Mid-County were Faith Erlacher with 110, Kathryn Goss 130 and Annalyn Lovell 147. Erlacher earned a top-10 medal, placing ninth.
Ridgewood’s Madison Haar was the individual runner-up with a 103.
