He will face current Henry County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Jim Padilla, of Kewanee, who is the Republican candidate for the office, and Annawan Police Chief Tim Wise, the Democratic candidate.
 

Men indicted in drug case

A federal grand jury two weeks ago returned an indictment that charges four Henry County men with conspiracy to manufacture, distribute and possess methamphetamine.

The Bishop Hill Fire Department responded to a house fire at 3:23 a.m. Friday at 2080 1570E, where a vacant house was totally engulfed in flames.
 

Man wants to withdraw guilty plea in meth case

Facing 12 years in prison, David Pierce, 47, of Galva filed a motion last week to withdraw his guilty plea to methamphetamine-related felonies filed last October after his arrest in Galva.
 

Teen, infant both hurt in roll-over north of Galva

A single-car accident north of Galva sent two minors to a Peoria Hospital at 2 p.m. Tuesday.
Erika Becerril, 16, Kewanee, was northbound on the Galva-Atkinson blacktop when her 2003 Pontiac left the road just south of the Page Street extension and rolled over several times.

The Illinois Department of Public Health is alerting Illinoisans to a nationwide H1N1 phishing e-mail scam. The fraudulent e-mails (phishing) claim to be from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and reference a CDC sponsored State Vaccination Program.

Plane crash claims elderly woman's life

An 83-year-old Queen City, Mo. woman was killed and two others were injured when a 1976 Cessna single-engine plane crashed just after taking off from the Kewanee Municipal Airport on Monday night.
 

Two sentenced for their parts in meth making

Co-defendants in a Galva meth lab case pleaded guilty in  Henry County Circuit Court on Thursday. John Bengston, 49, and Tammy Hagerty, 33, pleaded guilty to Class X felony aggravated unlawful participation in a meth lab with a child present and four counts of Class 3 felony meth-related child endangerment. The charges allege the crimes occurred on or about June 24.
 

Altona man explains deceased man found in his car

The driver of a car in which a Galesburg man was found dead Friday afternoon in Galesburg said he was just trying to do a nice thing by offering a ride.
