The City of Galva is having a building constructed and attached to the former City Administration Building – the new police station – at 210 Front St.

The 28-by-48 structure will be attached to the building’s east side. It will include a rest room for persons being held by the police, and have room to park two squad cars inside.

City Administrator David Dyer said last week the rest room is needed so detainees will not share a rest room with firemen, emergency services workers and city employees. The rest room will also be secured to help prevent escape.

American Steel is building the structure. Stan Hall is in charge of the concrete work. Dyer expects all work to be completed by perhaps the middle of October.

Total cost is estimated to be $11,767.50.

Currently, the Galva Police Department is still located in the old station at the corner of Front and Center streets. Beginning Saturday, Sept. 26, the department will be moved and officially operating out of the 210 Front St. location.
