South Carolina man injured in head-on mishap

A South Carolina man was injured after a head-on auto accident north of the intersection of Route 34 and the Bishop Hill Road on Wednesday, Dec. 9, during white-out conditions.

According to authorities, Barbara Elder, 49, of Galva, was northbound on the Bishop Hill Road about one-fourth of a mile north of Route 34 when she crossed the center line and struck a car head-on driven by James Clement, 42, of Charleston, S.C., who was southbound on the Bishop Hill Road.

Clement was taken by Galva-Bishop Hill Emergency Medical Service to Kewanee Hospital.
Elder declined treatment at the scene, according to a spokesman for the Henry County Sheriff’s Department.

Elder was ticketed by the sheriff’s department for driving on the wrong side of a roadway.

The Bishop Hill Fire Department assisted at the scene.
