James Padilla has won the Republican nomination for Henry County Sheriff - at least for now - and the proposal seeking an increase in taxes to help pay for Henry County Courthouse repairs was voted down, highlighting Tuesday’s General Primary Election in Henry County.

Padilla defeated Dan Collier by just 32 votes, and that scant margin leaves Padilla’s victory questionable until replies on 68 absentee ballots are cast over the next two weeks.

The courthouse tax proposal was defeated after 55 percent of voters voted against it. The actual vote totals were 4,460 no, 3,616 yes.
