Galva native Stacy Whitman is starting a small press dedicated to multicultural fantasy and science fiction for children and young adults.

The press hopes to be open to submissions from writers as early as January. It is raising money for this through Kickstarter.com, a website at which supporters of the press’s mission can securely “pledge,” much like they would for a PBS campaign, and receive “rewards” for their pledge. For pledges as little as $5, project backers can receive bookmarks, discounts on books, and books donated to their library.

So far, her firm, Tu Publishing, has raised 30 percent of its goal, with the campaign slated to end Dec. 14. The company will only receive the money if its $10,000 goal is reached. For more information, see http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1586632165/tu-publishing-a-small-independent-multicultural.

The website can be found at http://www.tupublishing.com.

Whitman is the granddaughter of Betty Nelle Whitman and the late Dale Whitman of Galva, and daughter of Blair and Betty Whitman of Galva and Peggy Whitman of Galesburg.
