Galva Junior-Senior High School Principal Chad Cox, in response to reaction about a new electronics devices policy at the school, has offered some thoughts to help clarify the policy and its status. His comments are here below:
Recently, I published our newly adopted “Electronic Devices Policy” and asked students and parents/guardians to read this policy before the school implemented it.
My goal with the letter we sent home was to communicate and inform our stakeholders of this new school policy that was approved by our board of education in December 2011.
It was not my intent for this informational letter to be perceived as an opportunity for a student and/or parent to disagree with and/or refuse to accept the adopted/approved policy. It has been approved and we (students/staff) are eager to implement it as soon as possible.
I did request ALL parents/guardians and ALL students read the policy, sign/date the informational letter and return the letter to the school to acknowledge receipt of the policy. The implementation date of this policy is yet to be determined and it will not take effect until we have received ALL informational letters signed by each student AND his/her parent/guardian!
We have extra copies of the letter in our Main Office if this letter did not get home for some reason.
Last point I want to clarify on this topic: Implementation of this policy will affect all students, not just those students who own their own electronic devices. Additionally, a student may choose to borrow and use another student’s cell phone, Mp3 player, IPad, and/or Tablet, while at school for use in class for academic reasons and/or at lunch for personal communication.
