A Galva house was heavily damaged if not destroyed in a fire Tuesday night, Feb. 21.
The home at 505 SE 4th Ave., owned by Terri Jones of rural Galva, was occupied by her daughter, Mandy Pratt, and Pratt’s two children, ages 4 and 1. Pratt and the children were not home at the time.
The call came in at 11:24 p.m. from neighbors, who said the home was totally engulfed in flames.
Galva and Bishop Hill fire fighters and Galva-Bishop Hill Emergency Medical Service all responded.
A dog and a bird were found deceased in the home. A cat and another dog were rescued. They were taken to the ambulance. The dog, a beagle, received minor burns around the ears; the cat seemed unharmed. The animals were taken to Galva Regional Veterinary Service for care.
Galva Fire Chief Denny Tarleton said the departments were on the scene until 2 a.m. Wednesday. He also said the State Fire Marshal’s office would be on the scene the next morning to investigate the cause.
