A Galva Police officer was terminated after being hired full-time just last week, after he was charged with three class A felonies and five misdemeanders in an incident in Kewanee on Sunday morning.
James D. Wiggin, 30, of Kewanee was appointed to a full-time position at the April 25 Galva City Council meeting by a unanimous vote of the council.
He was arrested in Kewanee on Sunday morning for domestic battery, aggravated battery, criminal trespass to a vehicle, interference with reporting domestic violence and theft.
Police Chief Jerry Clark was not in his office Tuesday afternoon but Mayor Rich Nordstrom said that Wiggin had been terminated from the Galva Police Department on Sunday or Monday. Nordstrom said Clark had said there is zero tolerance for these actions on the Galva department.
Wiggin had previously worked part-time for Galva and Kewanee police departments.
He was taken to Henry County Jail on Sunday morning. His bond was set at $50,000. He posted bond of $5,000 on Monday and was ordered to have no contact with the victim and no possession of a firearm or ammunition.
A preliminary hearing is set for May 9 at 1 p.m.
