East Moline -

Galva native Mark White, a telecommunicator with the Illinois State Police, has been honored for heroic efforts.

White, who works for District 7 of the Illinois State Police, East Moline, was one of several people honored at a May 22 awards ceremony in Springfield hosted by the state police. He received the Illinois State Police Lifesaving Award.

White earned the honor for efforts he gave while off-duty driving in the past year. He protected an unaccompanied small child who had walked into an active lane of traffic opposite the direction he was driving. As White stopped and exited his vehicle, a fast-moving three-axle construction truck entered the construction zone. White picked up the child and jumped out of the lane of traffic just before the truck could strike  the child.

White is the son of Rod and Sandy White of Galva.
