The Galva Food Pantry received a real Christmas gift in December in the way of a greatly needed new, energy efficient refrigerator and freezer.
Making the gifts possible were the Galva Lions Club, Galva Rotary, and the Lambda Nu and Xi Kappa Gamma chapters of Galva Beta Sigma Phi, all of whom donated funds.
According to pantry’s Terry Welch and Pete VanDeVelde, the organization served a total of 1,848 individuals in 2011, or roughly 150 each month.
By providing basic foodstuffs to the neediest citizens, the pantry is able to make a valuable contribution to many area families. Donations such as the new appliances will help them continue to operate effectively and efficiently.
Anyone wishing to donate volunteer time or financially to the pantry is encouraged to contact Welch or VanDeVelde.
