A 17-year-old from Oneida died early Tuesday morning after a one-vehicle rollover accident east of Oneida at 9:04 p.m. Monday. Two other passengers in the pickup truck were treated at a local hospital and released, while the fourth person in the truck suffered a broken right hand.
The Knox County Sheriff’s Department reported in a news release issued Tuesday that Kevin T. Moore, 2175 Knox Road 1240E, was life-flighted to OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, where he died at 12:05 a.m. Tuesday. Moore was a senior at ROWVA High School.
According to the news release, the 16-year-old driver, whose name was not released, was southbound in the west ditch in the 2400 block of Knox Road 1240E, lost control of the vehicle, which went back onto the gravel road. The pickup slid across the road into the east ditch, rolling twice and landing on its roof, police reported, coming to rest in a bean field.
The driver was wearing a seat belt, but the three passengers were not. One of the occupants was ejected from the vehicle. All four teens, ranging in age from 13 to 17, were transported to an unnamed local hospital for treatment.
