Take heart, Christian: God really does love you

Do you doubt God’s love for you? If so, you’re not alone. Many people - Christians included - question God’s love for them.

That could change, though, if we readjust our focus. We need to look to Jesus - not ourselves - as the basis for God’s love.

The fact that God infinitely loves His Son is clear in Scripture. In Isaiah 42:1, God calls Jesus his “Servant whom I uphold, My Elect One in whom My soul delights!”

In Matthew 3:17 and several other verses God calls Jesus his “beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”

God’s love for His Son is great. Because of that, He not only loves Him as a Person, He loves all that Jesus has, too. That includes Christians.

When we link ourselves to Jesus by accepting Him as Savior, we gain a special love from God. Ephesians 1:6 says God sent Jesus to die for us to make us “accepted in the Beloved.” That means He accepts us through Jesus.

Once we’re accepted by God through Jesus, we’re seen by God in a different light. We’re seen as being clothed with the righteousness of Christ, not our sins. “For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God,” Colossians 3:3 says.

It’s true we struggle sometimes believing God loves us greatly. When we see the sin in our lives and the many ways we fall short of His moral standards, we wonder how He could love us.

The answer is Jesus. God delights in Him. And since Christians belong to Him, God delights in them as well. Link up with Jesus and you automatically link up with God the Father.

If you’ve received Jesus as Savior, access all the gifts that go with that, including God’s love. The next time you’re tempted to doubt His love for you, remind yourself it’s not about you. It’s about Jesus. God’s fully satisfied with Him.

As a result, He’s fully satisfied with those connected to Him, too.
