Lexington wins boys and girls games

    There was joy at The Fort Tuesday night as Lexington garnered a sweep after wins over Calvary Christian Academy in boys’ and girls’ basketball.
    The Minutemen shot past the Knights 60-38 in the boys’ game. It was the second quarter that was the difference as LHS outscored CCA 18-4 in taking a 36-16 lead into the break. The margin grew to 49-23 after three periods.
    Ray McLeese and Adam Baillie led a dozen Minutemen in scoring with 12 and 10 points, respectively. Nathan Ensign added 7 points, Jonny Olson threw in 6 while Tate Walcott and Will White each had 5 points. Nick Beard chipped in 4 points, Josh Hardman and Tommy Higgins had 3 points apiece with Adam Murray and Jackson DuBois adding 2 points each. Konner Tolan had 1 point.
    Lexington got off to a fast start in the girls’ game and rolled to a 58-20 victory. Raelyn Payne had the hot hand with eight points in the opening frame as the Minutemen took a 23-6 lead.
    LHS managed just eight points in the second quarter but Calvary scored just three. Jayden Standish tallied 11 markers in the third frame as Lexington built a 50-10 advantage.
    Standish finished with 17 points and Payne had 14 for LHS. Toria Sharrow added 6 points, Rylie Winterland, Layken McGuire and Carlee Lype each scored 4 points. Skyler Friedmansky contributed 3 points and Jules Grunloh, Elena Steffa and Faith Patton scored 2 points apiece.
