Class 1A regional wrestling from Saturday

There was no surprise in a trio of Prairie Central Hawks winning regional wrestling titles on Saturday. Simon Schuler, Drew Hoselton and Cade Kerns are state-ranked and looking for deep runs at the state finals.
It really came as no surprise, either, that the trio will be joined at the sectional by four teammates after the Hawks placed a total of seven in the top three at the Class 1A Dee-Mack Regional. The seven, along with four El Paso-Gridley and five Dwight wrestlers, will take their shot at landing at state next Friday and Saturday at the Clinton Sectional.
Schuler was dominant in his trek to the top of the podium at 145 pounds for PC. Schuler won his first two bouts at by fall, and then defeated EPG's Kaleb Featherly 5-1 in the final.
Hoselton was even more dominant with two pins in less than a minute before winning the 160-pound title with a 23-8 technical fall.
Kerns got a bye and then won 7-0 before taking the 195-pound with a pin.
Garrett Johnson placed second for the Hawks at 126 pounds. Dylan Varney also placed second at 220 to advance. Alex Steidinger, who made it to state last year, had to go through the wrestlebacks and came out third to advance at heavyweight. Jacob Woodrey also made it through the wrestlebacks at 152 to move on for Prairie Central.
Jaime Gregory came in second for the Titans at 106 pounds, as did Dylan Reeves at 170 pounds. Kain Jackson advanced with a third-place finish at 132 pounds.
At St. Joseph, freshman Daniel Gutierrez captured first place with a pin at 138 pounds. Classmate Cade Enerson came in second at 145 to also move on to Clinton. Cameron Klingler (170), Hunter Esposito (195) and Xaivier Slaughter (heavyweight) each won third third-place bouts by fall to also advance.
