Class 3A wrestling

Jake Lanning kept his unbeaten record in tact and will be joined by Kevin Gschwendtner at the Class 2A state finals wrestling meet after making it through the Sterling Sectional over the weekend.
Lanning (40-0) won his first bout on Friday by fall, moving him to the semifinal round at 170 pounds. On Saturday. Lanning worked for a 6-1 decision over Artimus Cunningham of Sycamore. He then worked for a 3-0 decision over Manteno’s Stevie Silva to earn the title.
Lanning placed sixth at state last year at 170 pounds. He is the first four-time state qualifier in Pontiac history.
Gschwendtner went 1-1 on Saturday, but his win was the most important match, it gave him a spot at state at 160 pounds. The Pontiac senior defeated Elias Edmondson of Sterling 6-3 in the semifinal round to reach the finals.
Despite putting up a good battle, Gschwendtner (34-7) suffered a 7-2 loss to Freeport’s Major Dedmond, who might have been considered the wrestler to beat in this weight class.
Gschwendtner took fourth at 152 pounds last year at state.
