Area baseball from Monday and the weekend

    Fieldcrest rallied to notch a 5-3 Heart of Illinois Conference baseball victory over Lexington Monday afternoon.
    The Knights did all their damage in one inning off LHS starter Jayden Jones. Trailing 3-0, FHS scored five runs in the third to take the lead.
    A leadoff walk started the rally. An error, a fielder's choice and another walk loaded the bases for the Knights. Cam Grandy then singled home two runs to get Fieldcrest on the board.
    Coty Johnson followed with a run-scoring base hit to even it at 3-3 and a sacrifice fly scored Grandy to put FHS ahead. Johnson scored on a wild pitch later in the inning.
    The Minutemen got on the board with two runs in the first inning when Will White doubled in Jones and Koletin Hippen.
    Josh Hardman scored on Jones' base hit in the second inning for a 3-0 lead.
    Grandy had a hit and two RBIS for the Knights. Johnson singled and drove in a run while Eric Naas and Travis Cook each singled. Hayden Carls added an RBI.
    Josh Keller got the win, giving up three runs on five hits and three walks in six innings. He fanned three. Johnson also struck out three and walked one in closing out the win.
    Jones took the loss after allowing five unearned runs on three hits and four walks. He struck out one.
    White doubled and had two RBIs for the Minutemen. Hardman, Hippen, Jonny Olson and Craig Birkenbeil each singled.
WFC 10, Lexington 2
    LEXINGTON — Two five-run frames lofted Woodland-Flanagan-Cornell to a 10-2 nonconference victory over Lexington at Keller Park on Saturday. The Minutemen scored in the fifth after falling behind 10-0.
    Kyle Voytko had two hits and three runs batted in for the Warriors (4-9). Mason Ewing and Tyler Jenkins each had two hits with Ewing driving in two runs. Collin Hjerpe and Austin Moore each had a hit and RBI while Chandler Hillebrenner also had a hit.
    Ray McLeese had three hits for LHS. Hippen and Tate Walcott each had one hit. McLeese and Birkenbeil each drove in a run.
    Hjerpe struck out five for WFC. White and McLeese threw for Lexington.
Tri-Valley 10, EPG 3
    DOWNS — Tri-Valley scored in each of the first five inning at bat in claiming a 10-3 HOIC victory over El Paso-Gridley Monday.
    The Vikings led 4-0 before EPG scored three times in the top of the third to get back in it. But that was it for the Titans.
    Drew Gilbert took the loss for EPG after allowing 10 runs on nine hits and four walks in 4 2-3 innings. He fanned two. Drew Edelman finished up, allowing just two hits.
    Zach Johnson had three hits for the Titans, including a double, and drove in two runs. Brock Starkey also had three hits and Nathan Lavender doubled. Gilbert, Kyler Edelman and Teron Fairchild each singled.
    El Paso-Gridley defeated Midland 4-2 on Saturday. The titans scored single runs in each of the first three innings and added a run in the fifth. Midland scored twice in the bottom of the first.
    Kevin Greene got the win with Carson Hoffman and Drew Edelman cleaning up.
    Lavender had three hits, Kyler Edelman and Starkey each had two safeties and Johnson and Fairchild had one hit apiece.
    Eureka scored all its run in the first inning and made them hold up in a 5-4 win over El Paso-Gridley in HOIC play Friday. The Titans made it close with two runs in the seventh inning.
    Fairchild took the loss after a tough start. Fairchild and Gilbert combined for five scoreless innings after the initial frame. Fairchild fanned four and Gilbert set down three on strikes.
    Greene, Kyler Edelman, Lavender and Fairchild each had two hits for EPG. Johnson, Starkey and Hoffman had one hit apiece.
Dwight-Ill. Lutheran-Walther Christian
    CRETE — Dwight came back for a 7-5 win over Walther Christian in the first game of a two-game set on Saturday. The Trojans were then shut out by host Illinois Lutheran in the second game.
    Against Walther Christian, Dwight starter DJ Branz allowed five runs in the first inning and then threw four scoreless innings for the win. Daniel Gutierrez tossed two scoreless innings of relief for the save.
    DTHS scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning to begin chipping away at a five-run deficit. Single runs in the third and fourth innings were followed by a two-run fifth that put the Trojans in the lead. A run in the sixth completed the scoring.
    Morgan Fritz and Bubba Schultz each had two hits with Blake Graham adding a two-base hit.
    Blake Graham and Logan Graham each singled for Dwight's only hits against Lutheran Lutheran, a 10-0 defeat. Michael Johnson took the loss for the Trojans.
Pontiac 11, EPG 1
    Pontiac's offense got rolling early en route to an 11-1 win over El Paso-Gridley in frosh-soph baseball Monday at The Ballpark at Williamson Field.
    PTHS built a 9-0 lead after two runs in the first inning, two in the second and five in the third. EPG scored in the fourth frame and Pontiac ended the game with two runs in the fifth.
    Nic Hendren had two hits and scored three times for the Indians. Kobe Fox had two hits and drove in a run. Carter Dawson had a hit and two RBIs, Austin Waldschmidt had a hit and two RBIs, Eric Watson had a hit and run batted in and Gavin Bauknecht and Colton Clesson each had one safety.
