Volleyball regional finals involving area teams

    Flanagan-Cornell needed three sets and Lexington played just two, but they each shared in a positive result as both won Class 1A volleyball regional titles Thursday night.
    The Falcons needed three sets to bump off No. 1 seed Milford at Grant Park, while the Minutemen handled host Schlarman in two sets in Danville.
    Both teams will meet Monday in the second match at the Woodland Sectional.
Schlarman Regional
    DANVILLE — Lexington met the challenge of Schlarman head on with the hitting of Jayden Standish and Lauren Boyd as the Minutemen defeated the regional host 25-18, 25-18 to win their fifth straight regional title.
    Standish and Boyd each had 8 kills for Lexington (27-7). Emma White had a strong floor game with 29 assists and 11 service points. Boyd and Raelyn Payne led the defense with 15 digs apiece.
Grant Park Regional
    GRANT PARK — Flanagan-Cornell (17-13-1) won its third straight regional title but needed a decisive third a set to triumph. The Falcons whipped Milford 25-11, 17-25, 25-15.
    Brittany Henson had 8 kills for the Falcons and Liberty Vollmer made 17 assists. Kylie Kindermann served up 10 points and came up with 5 digs. Kayla Van Weelden had 3 blocks.
HOIC
    There were a total of nine teams from the Heart of Illinois Conference to make regional finals, and six of a possible seven advanced to the sectional level in 1A and 2A.
    In Class 1A at LeRoy, Blue Ridge defeated Armstrong 25-10, 25-19.
    In Class 2A, Tri-Valley defeated El Paso-Gridley 25-18, 25-14 in El Paso. Dee-Mack won on its home floor, 25-16, 25-16 over Tremont. At St. Bede, Eureka advanced with a 25-4, 25-16 thrashing of the host Bruins. Heyworth dropped a tough, three set decision to Watseka 25-12, 21-25, 25-21 on the Warriors' home floor.
