National signing day was last Wednesday and Annawan senior Jayde VanHyfte officially committed to continue her academic and athletic career at Arizona State University.
She gave her verbal commitment last summer, but made it official last week.
VanHyfte follows in her sisters’ footsteps as her two older sisters both play Division 1 basketball as well. Celina is a redshirt junior at Southern Illinois (Carbondale) and Morgan is a sophomore at Illinois State.
Her parents both played Division 1 sports as well. Her mother, Val, played basketball at Bradley and her father, Ted, played football at Wake Forest.
VanHyfte was a unanimous All-State selection last year and helped lead the Bravettes to the 1A state championship. She averaged more than 23 points per game as a junior.
She will be joining an Arizona State program that has made four straight NCAA tournament appearances. Last season, they lost by three in the second round of the tournament to South Carolina.
That was the closest game South Carolina played in the entire tournament, as they went on to capture the 2017 NCAA Championship.
ASU went 20-13 last season. Coach Charli Turner Thorne is the winningest coach in Sun Devil women’s basketball history. She has more than 400 wins in her 21 year tenure at the helm of the ASU women’s program.
