Pontiac will be playing for third place and Fieldcrest will try to take home the fifth-place trophy after Friday’s trophy semifinals of the Colmone Classic Tournament at Hall High School.
Rock Falls 59, Pontiac 49
Pontiac fell behind early and could not fully rally in dropping a 59-49 decision to Rock Falls in the semifinal round of the championship bracket. The loss sends the Indians into the third-place game tonight against Princeton, a 67-63 loser to Bureau Valley.
The Rockets outscored the Tribe in each of the first three periods, building leads of 20-7, 36-17 and 53-31. Pontiac finally got things rolling in the fourth period by scoring 18 points in knocking off 13 points from the deficit.
Ryan Weir hit for 16 points and Cam Dawson threw in 8 for the Tribe (3-5). Payton Amm and Alden Rutledge each scored 7 points while Carter Dawson had 4. Ben Schuler, Tyler Rich and Clayton Miller each scored 2 points and Isaac Nollen had 1 point.
Fieldcrest 57, Hall 55
The Knights won a two-point thriller after fending off a second-half rally by Hall. Fieldcrest got going early, taking a 20-14 lead after the first quarter and holding a 33-24 halftime advantage.
The Red Devils cut two points off the margin in the third, outscoring FHS 17-15, and then clipping five more in the final frame to make it a two-point game.
Cam Grandy scored 23 points and Hayden Carls contributed 14 for the Knights. Jaxon Cusac-McKay and Derek May each had 7 points while Travis Cook and Clay Wells put up 3 points apiece. Grandy also had 5 blocks and Cusac-McKay had 5 rebounds.
