The looks on the benches at the Class 1A Oneida Regional told the story.
Second-seeded ROWVA, with hopes of capturing the school’s first regional title since 1983, was upset by Lincoln Trail Conference foe West Central 54-40 on Tuesday in the quarterfinals.
“It’s very disheartening,” first-year Tigers coach Jason Lydic said. “It’s not the way you envision ending your season but give a lot of credit to West Central.”
In the second game at Oneida, third-seeded Kewanee Wethersfield (15-14) had to battle to the end to hold off the upset bid from sixth-seeded Galva (6-21) in a 47-37 victory for the Flying Geese.
“No one gave us a chance tonight but the kids showed them,” Galva coach Clay Haurberg said. “I couldn’t be more proud of them.”
