The Galva fifth- and sixth-grade basketball team picked up its first victory of the season, 31-20 over Wethersfield, on Jan. 31 at Woodhull.
Galva jumped out to an early 21-4 halftime lead due to outstanding defense pressure by A.J. Stone and Matt Hagerty.
The second half continued with great guard play from Austin Harper and Hunter Barrett. Michael DeSmit, Alex Samuel, Ragnar Lindberg and Jordan Leek controlled the inside for the Cats, grabbing 13 rebounds, despite the absence of Da-Mon Koga.
Cameron Kelly led Galva in scoring with 15 points. Caine Ingram and Ryan Russell added four points each. Dalton Spivey, Matt Hagerty, Andy Schupbach and Austin Harper each had two
points to round out a balanced attack.
The team is coached by Dan Russell, Travis Spivey and Pat Koga.
