Keyed by eight points by guard Kelsey Kovacik, ROWVA jumpet out to a 16-4 first quarter lead and never looked back, downing Galva 60-23 in opening-round action of the AlWood Regional in Class 1A girls high school basketball action in Woodhull on Monday night.

Kovacik, who finished with a game-high 17 points, hit two 3s in the opening period to get the Tigers off to a good start against the Lady Cats, who finish their season at 4-20.

“They shot the ball well to open up and our defense was not as strong as were were wanting,” said Galva coach Jeremy Trill, “but ultimately, it was our offense that let us down.”

“We wanted to really force them to the left and we felt it was something we could really capitalize on,” said ROWVA coach Heidi Libby. “Galva also has a tendency to work a nice high-low on offense and we wanted to stop that.”
