The Ridgewood girls basketball team wanted to beat the best.
They nearly did.
The third-ranked Spartans hardly looked the part of newcomers at Redbird Arena in Normal in the Class 1A state tournament semifinals on Friday, Feb. 26, taking defending state champion Hinckley-Big Rock down to the wire in a 49-46 overtime heartbreaker.
“You just saw the state championship game, in my opinion,” Ridgewood coach Bryan Brooks said.
“That felt like a state championship game,” Hinckley-Big Rock coach Greg Burks agreed. “Those were two state championship-caliber teams on the floor.”
