A mentally challenged man named Charlie finds his life strangely interwoven with that of Algernon, the mouse. Experimental surgery performed on Algernon has increased his intelligence fourfold. The operation is tried on Charlie, who rapidly becomes a genius, farm more intelligent than his teacher, Alice, or the doctors who created the operating technique.
