The Galva girls basketball team fell to Ridgewood and Princeville in Lincoln Trail Conference Tournament pool play action Saturday and Monday.

With the schedule altered by weather-related postponements Thursday, the LTC tourney tipped Saturday in Aledo and the Lady Wildcats fell to Ridgewood 55-49.

The Spartans dominated the opening half and built a 32-18 lead at the break. The Lady Cats battled back in the third quarter and trimmed the deficit to 36-32.

Ridgewood held off Galva down the stretch to notch the pool play win. Carlie Barman topped the Spartans with 26 points and Grayce Spicher added 11. Darrah Schilling paced Galva with 18 points, followed by Josie Williams with 15.

The Lady Cats returned to Aledo Monday afternoon and were handed a 55-27 loss by the tourney’s No. 2 seed, Princeville.

The Lady Princes led 17-6 at the quarter and put Galva away with a 23-7 run in the second frame to lead 40-13 at the break.

Only three Lady Cats scored in the contest, led by Josie Williams with 14 points.


Spartans 2-1 in pool play

After defeating Galva in its opener Saturday, Ridgewood split a doubleheader Monday in LTC tourney action.

The Spartans fell to third-seeded Wethersfield 60-46 and rebounded to defeat United 49-41.

Wethersfield led Ridgewood 31-22 at the half, and gained some breathing room with a 15-10 run in the third quarter. Carlie Barman and Lauren Curry topped the Spartans with 15 points apiece, and Grayce Spicher added 11.

In the nightcap with United, Ridgewood held a slim 23-21 edge at the half and extended its lead with a 13-8 surge in the third quarter.

Curry topped the Spartans with 14 points.


Lady Tigers 0-3 in LTC tourney pool play

The ROWVA Lady Tigers are 0-3 in the LTC tourney following a doubleheader loss Saturday and 50-29 loss to Stark County Monday.

ROWVA opened the tournament by facing the No. 1 team in Class 1A, top-seeded Annawan, and fell to the Bravettes 58-28. The Lady Tigers dropped their second game Saturday, 42-23 to West Central.

Mia Ponce-Voss topped the Lady Tigers with 12 points against Annawan, while Abby Stowe led with eight points against Stark County and six points aginst West Central.


Pool play standings

Pool A — Annawan and Mercer County 2-0, Stark County 1-1, West Central 1-2 and ROWVA 0-3.

Pool B — Princeville and Wethersfield 2-0, Ridgewood 2-1, Galva 0-2 and United 0-3.


Remaining LTC tourney schedule

The tourney schedule returns to normal and play wraps up with five games Saturday (Jan. 20) at Mercer County High School in Aledo.

Wednesday’s (Jan. 17) games found Mercer County vs. ROWVA, Stark County vs. Annawan, Galva vs. Wethersfield and Ridgewood vs. Princeville.

Pool play concludes Thursday (Jan. 18) with Annawan vs. Mercer County at 6 p.m. and Princeville vs. Wethersfield at 7:30 p.m. at Mercer County’s high school gym, and United vs. Galva at 6 p.m. and West Central vs. Stark County at 7:30 p.m. at MerCo’s intermediate gym.

The tourney concludes Saturday with the ninth-place game at 1 p.m., seventh-place game at 2:30 p.m., fifth-place game at 4 p.m., third-place game at 5:30 p.m. and championship game at 7 p.m.
