Wildcats, Cougars fall in non-conference outings

Galva and ROWVA-Williamsfield came up on the short of non-conference baseball outings Monday.

Henry pitchers Schuyler Hughes and Ty Wilkinson combined to no-hit Galva in the Mallards’ 10-0 five-inning win at the Galva Park District.

The Mallards pounded out 10 hits and scored three runs each in the first, third and fourth innings. 

Gunner Spivey took the loss for the Wildcats (2-5).

The Cougars fell to 5-3 overall with a 9-2 loss to Abingdon-Avon. The Tornadoes jumped in front with four runs in the first, and added four more in the fourth.

Austin Batterson knocked in two runs for R-W and Nick Malek took the loss. Nick Inness sparked A-Town with two hits and three RBI.


R-W Cougars take two from Galva

Ten was the number for the ROWVA-Williamsfield baseball team Saturday as the Cougars swept a conference-opening doubleheader from Galva — 10-6 in game one and 10-5 in the nightcap.

In the opener, R-W carried a 4-3 lead into the bottom of the fifth inning and broke the game open with five runs. 

Jason Clark paced the R-W offense with three hits and two RBI, while Tucker Sams added two hits and two RBI. Clark earned the win for R-W as he worked 5 1/3 innings and gave up four hits and fanned 13.

Ethan Peterson led Galva with two hits and three RBI. Gunner Spivey added two hits for the Wildcats. Nick Anderson took the loss for Galva.

In game two, Galva led 5-3 after three innings only to see R-W rally with four in the fourth and three insurance runs in the sixth.

Clark had another big game for the Cougars with two hits and five RBI. Charlie Gibbons added two hits and knocked in a run. Sams was the winning pitcher for R-W.

Anderson knocked in two runs for the Wildcats and Peterson took the loss.

The Cougars are 5-2 on the season and 2-0 in the Lincoln Trail Conference.


Ridgewood, United split doubleheader

The Spartans emerged with a split Saturday at United.

The Red Storm took the opener 7-4, while the Spartans rolled to a 19-6 win in game two.

Ridgewood led 4-3 going into the bottom of the sixth in game one, but the Red Storm rallied with four runs to move in front 7-4.

Dawson Anderson knocked in two runs to lead the Spartans, who managed just four hits in the contest. Mitchell Brooks took the loss for Ridgewood.

The Ridgewood offense erupted for 19 runs and 20 hits in the nightcap to salvage the split. 

The Spartans scored four in the second, eight in the third and six in the seventh.

Anderson had three hits and knocked in three runs for the Spartans. Brooks added three hits for Ridgewood, Levi Swanson had two hits and two RBI, and Logan O’Neil knocked in a pair of runs.

Swanson earned the win for the Spartans, who move to 5-5 overall and 1-1 in the Lincoln Trail Conference.


Monmouth-Roseville handles Ridgewood

Monmouth-Roseville took control with six runs in the third inning en route to a 10-3 non-conference win over Ridgewood Friday.

Jack Thompson and Jordan Cheek knocked in three runs each to pace the Titans.


Clark leads R-W over North Fulton

The Cougars rapped out 18 hits in a 15-6 non-conference win over North Fulton Wednesday, March 28.

ROWVA-Williamsfield scored 10 runs in its final two at-bats to lift the Cougars. Jason Clark led the R-W offense with three hits and four RBI. Austin Batterson and Calvin Peterson added three hits each, Charlie Gibbons knocked in three runs and and Gunner Johnston had two RBI.

Gibbons worked six innings to get the win for R-W.



HS Softball results

Cougars cruise in five innings

ROWVA-Williamsfield scored all of its runs in the first three innings in Monday’s 11-1 non-conference win over Midland.

R-W scored two in the first, four in the second and five more in the fifth. Katelyn Aldred knocked in three runs for R-W, while Mallory Shea added two hits and two RBI. 

Calyn Garza also knocked in two runs for the Cougars, who moved to 7-1 with the win.

Tina Foglesong tossed two innings to get the win.


ROWVA-Williamsfield sweeps Lady Cats

The Cougars posted a pair of five-inning wins over Galva in Lincoln Trail Conference action Saturday.

ROWVA-Williamsfield won the opener 11-0 and claimed the nightcap 17-2.

In game one, R-W built a 7-0 lead after two innings en route to the win. Marissa Miller knocked in three runs and Gionna Ott added two RBI for the Cougars. Katelyn Aldred earned the win with five strikeouts and just one hit allowed in five innings.

Big first and third innings helped R-W to the sweep in game two. The Cougars scored six in the first and seven in the third to take control. Miller was the winning pitcher with eight strikeouts and two hits allowed. Calyn Garza sparked the R-W offense with three hits and Alivia Alford knocked in two runs.

Marie Marshall homered for the Lady Wildcats.

R-W moved to 6-1 overall and 3-0 in the Lincoln Trail, while Galva slipped to 0-6 and 0-2 in conference.


Cougars roll past Monmouth-Roseville

ROWVA-Williamsfield tallied seven runs in the second inning and went on to defeat Monmouth-Roseville 11-1 in Friday’s non-conference matchup.

Katelyn Aldred led the ROWVA-Williamsfield offense with two hits and four RBI. Mallory Shea and Emily Foster added two hits each in R-W’s 11-hit attack.

Tina Foglesong held Mon-Rose to two hits and fanned seven to earn the win.


R-W wins LTC opener over Ridgewood

Crooked numbers in the first, second and fourth innings propelled ROWVA-Williamsfield to a 14-1 win over Ridgewood in five innings Thursday, March 29.

R-W capitalized on 11 Ridgewood errors in the win. 

Tina Foglesong, Mallory Shea and Emily Foster knocked in two runs each for the Cougars.
