Ridgewood’s Franks tosses one-hitter

Ridgewood broke a scoreless tie in the top of the seventh and Cole Franks finished off a complete game one-hitter to lead the Spartans over ROWVA-Williamsfield 1-0 Tuesday.

Ridgewood’s Mitchell Brooks had the game’s lone RBI.

Franks only walked one and fanned 13 as the Spartans improved to 7-7 on the season and 2-1 in the Lincoln Trail Conference.

Charlie Gibbons had R-W’s lone hit and Austin Batterson took the loss for the Cougars. He worked 6 2/3 innings and allowed just three hits. The Cougars slip to 11-4 overall and 6-1 in the LTC.


Wildcats blanked at A-Town

Graham Struhs had two hits and two RBIs to lead Abingdon-Avon over Galva 5-0 in non-conference baseball action Tuesday.

A-Town tallied two runs in the first and added single runs in the second, fourth and sixth innings. Struhs worked 6 1/3 innings and allowed just one hit and fanned five to earn the win. A-Town pitchers limited Galva to just two hits — both by Ethan Peterson.

Jerrod Cortes took the loss for the Wildcats (2-7).


Cougars top Illini Bluffs in six

At Williamsfield Friday, the host R-W Cougars scored nine runs in the sixth inning to hand Illini Bluffs a 15-5 defeat.

ROWVA-Williamsfield plated four runs in the fourth inning for a 6-2 lead. 

Gunner Johnston finished with three hits and four RBIs to lead the Cougars. Tucker Sams added two hits with three RBIs, and Austin Batterson and Charlie Gibbons each drove in two runs for R-W.

Jason Clark gave up eight hits, five runs, two walks and struck out five in the complete game win.


R-W tops United in LTC play

ROWVA-Williamsfield notched a 5-1 Lincoln Trail Conference win over United Thursday.

The Cougars scored four runs in the second inning and added an insurnce run the fourth. The Red Storm scored its run in the bottom of the second.

Matthew Jones led R-W with three hits and two RBIs, and Calvin Peterson finished with two hits, including a home run, and two RBIs.

Charlie Gibbons issued four hits, one run and struck out five in a complete game for the win.


Ridgewood blanks Stark County

At Woodhull Thursday, Ridgewood held a 5-0 lead after three innings and added five more runs in the fourth in a shutout win over Stark County.

Briar Greenman and Kaleb Buss each had a hit and two RBIs to lead Ridgewood. Michael Hinerichsen added two hits and knocked in a run, and Travis Kane drove in another run for the Spartans.

Cole Franks walked two and struck out five in two innings to earn the win. 


Princeville no-hits Wildcats

Princeville’s Justin Janssen and Cody Donaldson teamed to no-hit Galva in Thursday’s 10-0 Lincoln Trail Conference win at the Galva Park District.

Princeville plated three runs in the first inning and added four in the fourth to take an 8-0 lead. Janssen worked the first five innings, and Donaldson closed the final two to complete the no-no.

The Wildcats’ Nick Anderson suffered the loss in one inning, giving up one hit, three runs, two walks and striking out four.


Knoxville edges Ridgewood

Knoxville broke a 7-7 tie with two runs in the top of the fourth and held off Ridgewood for a 9-8 win in non-conference baseball action Wednesday, April 11.

Cole Franks knocked in four runs to pace the Spartans.
