The Galva Area Chamber of Commerce has selected Jason Bates as its 2019 Citizen of the Year.

Bates has a long history of volunteering in Galva, with multiple organizations and causes. He’s become known as an ardent promoter of Galva — both locally and beyond the city limits.

Also selected for recognition as Friends of the Chamber are the Freedom Fest committee — led by Michelle Newman in recent years and now under the direction of Melissa Halsall — and volunteers for the Levitt AMP Galva Music Series, led by John Taylor.

The chamber will honor Jason and the Friends at the 2019 Galva Area Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting and Awards Night on Saturday, Feb. 2, at Kewanee Dunes Golf Club.

Social hour will be from 5 to 6 p.m., with dinner served at 6 p.m.

The meeting and awards will follow at 7 p.m. Tickets for the meeting are $15 and reservations are needed.
