Due to a scheduling issue, the Galva boys basketball team has pulled out of the Great Western Shootout Saturday, Jan. 19, at Abingdon-Avon High School.

Due to a scheduling issue, the Galva boys basketball team has pulled out of the Great Western Shootout Saturday, Jan. 19, at Abingdon-Avon High School.

GHS athletic director Kurtis Smyth issued the following statement:

“The Galva High School Athletic Department has removed a game from the varsity boys basketball schedule. Galva was scheduled to play at the Great Western Shootout hosted by Abingdon-Avon High School on Jan. 19. The Galva boys will not be participating in the shootout this season. According to Illinois High School Association policy, a varsity basketball team can only participate in 31 contests before the IHSA State Series. Galva had 32 games on its schedule for this season, and needed to remove one game to be in compliance with the IHSA."

Galva was scheduled to play Peoria Heights at Abingdon — a team the Wildcats defeated 40-36 on Jan. 5 in the inaugural Sandburg Shootout.

The Wildcats have been replaced at the tourney by Midwest Central.

10:30 a.m. — Ridgewood vs. Sherrard

Noon — Orion vs. Knoxville

1:30 p.m. — Payson-Seymour vs. Columbia

3 p.m. — Midwest Central vs. Peoria Heights

4:30 p.m. — Abingdon vs. Illini Central

6 p.m. — (Girls) Abingdon-Avon vs. Midwest Central

7:30 p.m. — Rockridge vs. Wethersfield
