Galva’s seventh grade girls 4x100 relay has improved its time in each meet during the track season.

If the team of Jennaca Serres, Ava Strom, Ava Anderson and Kendall Rogers can continue that trend, the foursome could end up on the medal stand this weekend at the IESA State meet.

“Ava Anderson was new to track this year and we were all surprised when they ran .04 seconds over the time they would need to qualify for state in the very first meet,” junior high girls track coach Tayler Kuenneth said.

The relay team turned in its best time of the season — 57.03 seconds — to pull away from runner-up Lewistown and win the sectional title on its home track Saturday.

That time of 57.03 places the Galva foursome sixth out of the 29 teams that will compete in the state meet at EastSide Centre in East Peoria.

“I would be extremely excited if they did place at state, but I really just hope they run a great race, have fun and set a new personal record,” Kuenneth said.

Also advancing to the state meet for the Wildcats is eighth grader Colin Elgin, who finished fourth in the long jump at the sectional with a leap of 17-7 1/2. That jump ranks Elgin 16th among the state competitors.

ROWVA will be sending two athletes to the state meet — eighth grader Jaxon Sharp with a win in the 110-meter hurdles (18.05 seconds) and seventh grader Maggie Blust with a second-place finish in the shot put (26-8).
