The Rev. William Clifford Zanton, 82, of Avalon (rural Janesville), Wis., died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2019, at Agrace Hospice, in Janesville, Wis. A memorial service will be at noon, on Saturday, June 15 at First Lutheran Church, in Geneseo. A luncheon will follow. Burial will be at 4:30 p.m. June 15 at Roseville Memorial Garden, in Roseville. Memorials in Rev. Zanton’s name may be made to First Lutheran Church, of Janesville, Wis., or a charity of your choice.
William was born April 24, 1936, in avalon, the son of Clifford J. Zanton and Lilah Mae Mawhinney. He married Linda Maude Kidder on March 28, 1965, at the Methodist Church, in Roseville. William was a music teacher and a pastor in the Evangelical Lutheran Church, serving in many communities.
He is survived by his loving wife, Linda; two sons, Jay (Carole) Zanton, of Centralia; and David (Jessica) Zanton, of Spear Fish, S.D.; daughter, Susan (Richard) Gunkle, of Bethlehem, Pa.; sister, Mary Ellen Will, of New York City; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, William Kenneth; and a granddaughter, Taylor Gunkle.
