CARMI — Seven errors by Carmi Post 224 paved the way for eight unearned runs in Boonville Post 200’s 12-5 win on Thursday at Eckerle Park.

Boonville pulled ahead 1-0 in the first without a hit, scoring after a walk, a stolen base and an error.

Carmi answered with a strong first inning. Consecutive hits from Brandon Skaggs and Travis Black, followed by a walk to Cole Blazier, loaded the bases. CJ Richardson drew a walk to score the first run. Cal York’s sacrifice fly to right put Post 224 ahead. Carmi added one more run in the inning with Jacob Lamont reaching on an error and Blazier scoring on the play.

In the top of the second Carmi pitcher Cole Blazier was able to work out of a bases loaded, no-out situation without giving up a run, but over the next three innings Boonville scored eight runs (five unearned) as Post 224 committed two errors and threw two wild pitches.

Carmi put across one run in the fifth (this time with some help from wild pitches and an error).

Trailing 12-4 in the bottom of the seventh, Post 224 scored their final run when Jason Mendenhall walked and was brought home after singles from Brody Atteberry and Brandon Skaggs.

Post 224 returns to action Saturday when they will host Newburgh in a double header starting at 1 p.m.
