Area girls' basketball from Tuesday
Three Tri-Point scorers reached double figures as the Chargers bumped past Iroquois West 66-54 in a nonconference girls’ basketball game at The Point Tuesday.
Tri-Point outscored the Raiders in three of the four quarters in garnering its second win of the season.
A 19-point effort in the opening frame gave the Chargers a 19-7 lead. The advantage was cut by four after Iroquois West outscored The Point 19-15 in the second, making it a 34-26 difference.
Tri-Point got those four points back over the final two periods as it outscored the Raiders 12-10 and 20-18.
Beth Houck led the Tri-Point charge with 23 points. Sierra Hummel added 19 and Abby Kerrins collected 10 markers as th Chargers improved to 2-10.
LeRoy 41, Prairie Central 39
LEROY — Prairie Central was outscored by a mere two points in the fourth quarter, but those proved to be the difference as host LeRoy edged the Hawks 41-39 in a nonconference girls’ game Tuesday.
Prairie Central got a pair of 3-pointers from Emily Wilson in the first quarter in taking a 13-9 lead. PC managed just five points in the second and the Panthers came back with 10 for a 19-18 halftime lead.
The Hawks scored one more point than LeRoy in the third — 10-9 — to tie the game at 28-28 heading into the fourth frame. Missed free throws — seven of them — proved to be the PC downfall in the last stanza.
Wilson finished with 10 points and Kari Slagel had 9 for the Hawks. Elly Haberkorn checked I with 6 markers and Emma Kinkade threw in 5 points. Olivia Weber scored 4 while Madison Kinkade and Janeesa Knapp each tallied 2 markers. Hannah Austman scored 1 point.
